The only World Cup meeting between France and Poland was the 1982 third-place playoff in Alicante. The Poles won 3-2 courtesy of goals by Andrzej Szarmach, Stefan Majewski and Janusz Kupcewicz. René Girard and Alain Couriol scored for Les Bleus.
